I agree. And they were under equipped from the beginning.One of the problems with arming the militia properly was that arms and men kept being moved out of Louisiana into other parts of the CS, and I believe the governor of Florida had made the problem worse by intercepting a musket purchase bound for Louisiana. So all the best muskets had been sent out of state when the attack came in 1862.
Southern Unionist troops really existed with plenty of documented sources unlike the mythical legions of black Confederate soldiers.We have you to study that. Don't need us.
