I state the Dahlgren Affair lead to the death of President Lincoln. After the Dahlgren affair was exposed, the confederate leaders ordered the bombing of the White House and the kidnapping or assassination of President Lincoln. John Wilks Booth is assumed to be part of the plot the bomb the White House and when it failed took it on himself to assassinate President Lincoln.

In truth General Butler originated the plan to free union prisoners and capture President Davis. It was approved but he failed at implementing his plan. It was General Kilpatrick came along with a similar plan to free the union prisoners. His changes to Butler's plan were adding the burning of Richmond and not the capture but the killing of President Davis and his cabinet. I believe when President Lincoln approved General Kilpatrick plan those changes to the paln were not included. I argue the Sec. of War Stanton and General Kilpatrick conspired together by adding in the burning of Richmond and killing of President Davis.

I argue the Sec. of War Stanton actions led to the death of President Lincoln. The war had been a gentleman's war for the leadership for each side neither side had not targeted each others leadership for assassination, until the Dahlgren affair. With this affair exposed the rules of the game had changed and it was now open season on the leadership of each side.

I want to note Sec. Stanton burn all the original papers and related in the Dahlgren Affair in November of 1865. He knew his action led to the death of President Lincoln and he was covering his tracks.

Here are several links supporting my argument that Sec. Stanton killed President Lincoln! They are all short reads...

I argue the original General Butler plan was to free the union prisoners and make a stab at capturing President Davis. I argue that General Kilpatrick plan was the same if not President Lincoln would not have gone for Burning down Richmond or killing President Davis. He would have modified it to reflect something similar to General Butler's plan. I argue that Sec. of War Stanton and General Kilpatrick conspired together to change what Lincoln wanted to what Col. Dahlgren was order to carry out. The burning of Richmond and killing of President Davis and other government leaders.

Once these Col. Dahlgren orders fell into confederate hands the tone of the war changed for the confederate leadership. Now, the confederate leadership thought there was basically a bounty on their heads. In kind, they put a bounty on President Lincoln head. If you read the links confederate leadership become active in trying to kill President Lincoln with bomb, kidnapping, and even assassination plots being discuss. The failed plot to capture President Lincoln was in March 1865. The only reason why the bombing plot failed was because the person to arm the mine(bomb) was capture 15 miles outside Washington D.C. on April 10th, 1865. The bombing plot was an assassination plot too.

I argue John Wilks Booth knew that confederate government wanted to kill President Lincoln and after the failed bomb attempted he took matters into his own hands. Why do you think he thought he would be rewarded for killing President Lincoln? He thought since the Southern government wanted President Lincoln dead that the Southern people would reward him as a hero...As we know he was not looked upon by Southerners as a hero after President Lincoln assassination.

President Lincoln assassination happen because of the failed Dahlgren raid. Those infamous papers put the fear of god into President Davis and his cabinet causing them to authorizes plots against President Lincoln. Those plots energized John Wilkes Booth into action causing the death of president Lincoln. I argue it all starts with Sec. Stanton behind President Lincolns back authorizing the burning of Richmond and killing of President Davis. Sec. Stanton loaded and pointed the gun at Lincoln and President Davis inadvertently through John Wilkes Booth pulled the trigger that killed Lincoln...Stanton action Killed Lincoln!

I am basically arguing no Dahlgren affair no assassination of Lincoln. There is no evidence that before the Dahlgren affair the confederate government was actively targeting Lincoln. Once the Dahlgren affair happen the confederate government began to actively target Lincoln with plots.

There is no evidence before the confederate government began plotting actions against Lincoln that John Wilkes Booth show any interesting in kidnapping or killing Lincoln. He had only showed a wiliness work for and show support for the confederate cause...As an agent for the confederacy John Wilkes Booth knew of the plots against Lincoln and once they failed. He took matters into his own hands.

John Wilkes Booth was not the typical nut case like other assassins of Presidents were. He organized a team that had specific goal to decapitate the federal government. He knew what his bosses wanted and he was going to fulfill his duty. He was no true nut case only a passion driven man...

Of all interpretations of the civil ear, I believe it is one of the most correct interpretations of an event leading to other greater events.

I had to find these links again that work...

Dahlgren's body was buried twice and finally laid to rest a third time... Its a story of the confederates hiding the body and then others finding the body and being grave robbers and moving it somewhere safer and the last someone contacting Ulric dad about his son's body...

https://www.nytimes.com/1865/08/13/...s-story-regarding-the-disposition-of-his.html

First Time,

It reached the city on Monday, March 7, by the York River Railroad, and laid during that day at the depot, where it was examined by large numbers of persons. His death had been caused by a gun-shot wound in the head. The little finger of one hand had been cut off on the field where he fell by some one anxious to secure, with the least trouble, a valuable diamond ring. That night the body was carried to Gen. ELZLY's office, in Belvin's block, and the next day. having been placed in a common pine coffin, of the kind then used for the burial of soldiers, which in turn was placed in a box, was transferred to the Oakwood Cemetery, a mile east of the city. The hearse used on this occasion was a four-mule street wagon, and the attendants consisted of a Confederate officer of inferior rank and two soldiers. Arriving at Oakwood, which was the burial place or all soldiers who died at Chimborazo, Howard's Grove, and other hospitals in the eastern portion of the city and suburbs, the negro grave-diggers and other attendants about the cemetery were driven off and ordered to absent themselves until notified that they might return. One of the negroes, now living in the city, having his curiosity excited, secreted himself in the woods near by determined to see what was to be done. The two soldiers dug a grave, placed the box in it and covered it up. They then shouted to recall the attendants of the cemetery, and getting into the wagon, returned to the city.

Second Time,

At 4 o'clock that evening they reached ORRICKS', and buried the body under an apple-tree in a field, avoiding the graveyard for tear of exciting inquiry, which might lead to discovery.

The third time, here...
