A fundamental value of conservatives in the Democratic Party of Georgia was that extending the right to vote to Blacks was wrong. Because the Reconstruction Era Radical Republicans wanted to extend the right to vote to African Americans, they were accused of wanting to place the Black above the white. Widespread opposition to Black suffrage would continue in Georgia for generations.
