It Wasn't About Slavery: Exposing the Great Lie of the Civil War by Samuel W. Mitcham Jr. is apparently the 5th best selling Civil War Era related book of 2020. (Thanks @PatYoung for the list.)
Apparently it's beating a tired drum. From the Amazon synopsis:
"no political party advocated freeing the slaves in the presidential election of 1860"
"Before the Civil War, the South financed most of the federal government—because the federal government was funded by tariffs, which were paid disproportionately by the agricultural South that imported manufactured goods."
The author blurb says Mitcham has written over 40 books. A quick check shows its mostly about World War II in Europe (he's apparently an Erwin Rommel fanboy). He does have three others about Civil War topics:
Bust Hell Wide Open: The Life of Nathan Bedford Forrest
Richard Taylor and the Red River Campaign of 1864
The Greatest Lynching in American History: New York 1863
Morbidly curious to hear from those who have read his other books.
P.S. Also in the Top 10 besteller list was a Thomas DiLorenzo book. As long as he's among the Civil War bestsellers list the public understanding has a long way to go.
